Fellowship & Intership
NAPEN has developed and maintains a specialized fellowship program in Pediatric and Neonatal Anesthesia, featuring a rigorous selection process overseen by the Culture and Extension Commission (CCEx) of FMUSP. The program spans 12 months, with fellows engaging in 36 hours of practical activities per week.
During their tenure, fellows gain exposure to various subspecialties within pediatric anesthesiology. Structured rounds take place at different institutes within the HCFMUSP complex, including the Instituto da Criança e do Adolescente (ICr), where fellows participate in surgical procedures, imaging sessions, digestive and respiratory endoscopies, and neonatal ICU rotations. They also experience rotations at the Instituto do Coração (InCor), Instituto de Ortopedia e Traumatologia (IOT), and Instituto Central (ICHC), gaining insights into pediatric surgical ICU and surgical procedures.
The fellowship program incorporates theoretical activities twice a week, encompassing discussions on articles (Journal Club), theoretical sessions, and Problem-based Learning discussions utilizing active teaching methodologies. Fellows are actively encouraged to participate in ongoing research projects and to initiate new research endeavors. They are also encouraged to pursue postgraduate programs, such as the Professional Master’s Degree and Doctorate.

HCFMUSP Medical Residency
NAPEN plays a crucial role in providing structured rounds in pediatric anesthesia for anesthesiology residents at HCFMUSP.
During these rounds, residents actively engage in the perioperative care of complex cases spanning various subspecialties in pediatric anesthesiology. They have the opportunity to collaborate with experienced mentors and benefit from a modern infrastructure equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
In addition to hands-on clinical experience, residents participate in theoretical activities and are encouraged to contribute to ongoing research projects.
For residents from institutions outside HCFMUSP, we offer a one-month observational internship opportunity.
